Bonhoeffer is a man of history that not very many people remember or knew anything about. Eric Metaxas has written an amazing biography of this man, prophet, pastor, spy, and martyr. I toughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone wanting to go deeper into their own walk with the Lord. We read the scriptures and we learn so much from Jesus’ disciples, and now we can see a man not that far gone in whom we can learn so much.

It paints for us a deeper picture of a pastor, theologian, academic and patriot that has not before been appreciated. Eric Metaxas has once again written an epic biography of a man who has helped shape history. While the size of this book is large, the reward is well worth the time invested. I cannot acclaim this book enough! For your love of your country and the love you have for Jesus this book is a must read. It should also be a must read for any pastors and missionaries!!

A splendid treat of history from the Christian perspective

This is a story of a young girl figuring out who she is with such rich historical details. This author was so detailed about the history and characters of her story that I found myself trapped inside this book. It truly was a treat to have the Christian perspective on this romance, nothing out of good taste. It was not just a story about two people finding each other; it was a story of how God can truly help bring forgiveness in ones life. I loved how Mrs. Elliot went deep into the details of Will’s past and on a topic that would not be very easy to turn around for the good of the story. It is well written and well thought out.

I highly recommend Ms. Elliot's debut novel with 5 Books in the series. This is an emotional journey of God's guidance, hope, love and perseverance. Without that hope, without that love of God's grace, life wouldn't be the same. This novel is extremely thought provoking and one that shouldn't be missed by any reader! I am a new Rosslyn Elliot fan and I am anticipating her new books to arrive for my consumption!!

A lot to be desired and lacking true Christian Vision....

I will start with what I thought were the good points about this book. The author is well written and can tell a story, a good enough story to keep the reader intrigued. This is why I finished the book; I was caught up in the romance of the story. I had to find out what was going to happen between Lucy and David Wolf. Lucy’s character was well written; I felt like I knew her and could see how she would react to a situation with her quirky character.

The story is a Christian fiction story and the Christian part about the book was lacking a WHOLE lot. There were a few mentions about the Lord in her story. Even though both of the main characters were struggling in the relationship with Jesus, the author really did not mention a lot about Christianity. I felt like I was just reading a secular book that mentioned God a few times. I would have loved the author to go into detail about the characters struggle with the Lord and a whole ending that could have really spoke into the lives of the people reading this story. The story is more for entertaining purposes than for a true look at your heart while reading it.

If you want to really have an awakening by reading a Christian fiction read, Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers, or Spring for Susannah By: Catherine Richmond. These are just a few to mention that really add the Lord and heart pulling messages into their fictions.

All in all, this was not a waste of my time, I did enjoy the characters. But, I do love my heart pulling TRUE Christian fiction stories.

Great Resource for Financial Guidence!

Mr. Alcorn is a very thoughtful and insightful writer on personal finances. I received a lot of great knowledge from reading; I have already tried applying just the biblical principles he mentions throughout.

Alcorn uses Biblical references and Scripture passages to illustrate each of his points--they are not just ideas he has come up with on his own, but rather actual Scriptural principles of how we should live in following the Lord. The largest focus of the book is giving: to the local church, to missions, to organizations which are fulfilling God's purposes, etc. The book is at once convicting, comforting, encouraging, and instructive.

This is an excellent book and an affordable cost for those who want to learn more about money, and what God says about it. Alcorn has compiled an excellent topical guide to finances that should be on every pastor's shelf and in the home of every Christian family looking to honor God with their money.

Non Origional and mind numbing...

Veteran romance novelist Joan Wolf takes the Biblical story of Esther and in the 255-page novel A Reluctant Queen transforms the humble Jewish girl, Esther, her courageous Uncle Mordecai, the typically Persian king Ahasuerus, and the evil Edomite Haman. Esther becomes a 21st-century-like woman who only wants what is best for the people around her (and she will decide what is best); Uncle Mordecai is a self-serving non-entity; the beautiful King Ahasuerus is so beautiful men and women alike marvel at his beauty and lust after his "horseman's muscles"; and Haman's sole motivation for wishing destruction upon the Jewish people is love for the king.

I was very disappointed in this novel, this is not a historical fiction story, and it is a love story inspired by the bible. I love historical fiction and I love to get lost in the ancient descriptions of how life and the world used to be. This story by Joan Wolf was not such a story that I learned anything about how the world during Esther’s time really was.

This story reminded me a lot like the movie “A Night With the King,” at first I thought I was reading the script from the movie, but then it changed and differed a little bit.

All in all I do not recommend this book, either to just read a book to kill time or to read it to learn about history or the story of Esther. This was a mind numbing story of romance that chopped up and did total injustice to the real story of Esther from the bible.

I do recommend Esther: The Bible a 1999 movie directed by Raffaele Mertes. This is a great movie that is very real to the historical time and the original story. An of course to truly understand the story from the original the biblical story is always a great read!!

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!

I was thouroughly suprised at how much I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! Spring for Susannah was a captivating read, with Gods love on almost every page.

Susannah is a 30 yr old maid from Michiagan that ends up marring her ministers brother. Sight unseen and hardly knowing her furutre husband she sets out on a journey to Dakota. Immediatly I was drawn into this story. Sometimes it takes me a few chapters to get stuck into a book. Not this one, it captivated me from the 1st page. Susannah when we 1st meet her she is unwanted and you can tell she is a broken women, spiritually. But, meeting Jesee (her new husband) and finding out how a godly man can truly love a women, is the theme of this story.

This book spoke to me in so many ways. A lot of struggles that every women seems to work through in life is in this book. Spring for Susannah reminds me a lot of Redeeming Love by: Francine Rivers. If you loved that book you will also love this book, just as much. Susannah wasn't as messed up as Angel. LOL

So, read the book I give it 5 stars!!!

Stand by what you believe

The Revised Edition gives the book greater insight through time. Piper writes a revised edition and explains what this book has done for people and how after 20 years he still stands by what he wrote. A lifetime of ministry and dealing with people, pasturing a church, and living the Christian live, he still stands by his belief in writing this book.

Desiring God is both theologically grounded and uncompromisingly practical. The first few chapters lay out the author’s journey toward Christian Hedonism, a rationale for Christian Hedonism in general, and how God is motivated by his own happiness and joy. After laying the foundation for his argument, Piper begins to lay out a case for living a life of joy and fulfillment in several areas of Christian discipleship.

The reader will benefit from this book to the degree that he embraces these concepts, as he is made into one who desires God above all else. This book is highly recommended, and will serve the reader well in developing a solid theological foundation for worship and living life for the glory of God.

A fresh breath of air.... LOVE

I am a student at Dallas Baptist University, and I have a professor that lived in the Middle East for over 20 yrs. as a missionary. Listening to her stories, the love that radiates from the Muslim culture, I have developed a heart for these people. To read this book was a real treat for me. In a country where we only see the bad that speak so much louder than the good, Reema Goode has written a book of hope for a nation.

In her book, Which None Can Shut, Reema Goode shares story after story of God's hand at work in the Arabian Desert which is a strictly Muslim nation. Goode's stories include stories of healing, stories of answered prayers and stories of open doors and opportunities of sharing who Christ is with important people in the community.

I recommend this book for all believers in Christ and for all that might just not understand people from another nation. If you have only watched the news and listened to the media; base your understanding from that, this book will awaken you to truth. God gave Abraham a promise that his son Ishmael would be fruitful and multiply as well as Isaac. If Ishmael was good enough for the Lord to bless him, who are we to HATE or despise a nation blessed from Abraham's seed.

Reema Goode's testimony is an anointed word of hope to this generation and an indicator of the mighty move of God the future will reveal in the Middle East and in Muslim culture around the world.

Great for a multitude of people...

I am a youth pastor and I was very interested in ready a book with the perceptive audience of teens, with the subject being dating. I pastor a group of inner city kids that I lose to pregnancy and the world often. This book has given me some preaching topics and has helped me put an ideology into words. My personal belief on dating before marriage is different than Eastham's, but this book has helped me teach a group of kids that do believe in it.
Written from a Christian perspective, Eastham gives his wisdom from personal experience, real-life questions posed by teens, and some visual learning techniques to present both myths and truths about love relationships.
You're not "just friends" and why you need to drop the just in "just friends." 5 Tips on Finding True Love and How to be comfortable with yourself. Are topics that are addressed and much more. These topics intrigued me and as I read it really helped me put into words that teens would listen to. Most of the time teens turn a deaf ear, thinking you are condemning them. Eastham really uses his humor and real life stories to intrigue his readers.

I recommend this book for teens, parents of teens, and all adults dating.

International Children's Bible ***

The International Children's Bible Holy Bible is designed and formatted especially for children and written in a language geared towards a third grade reading level. This particular edition has many vivid illustrations portraying various bible stories, created in a way to artistically capture a child's attention and imagination.

I would have preferred that this Bible be hardcover bound, seeing how kids can be with books, particularly one that they will be encouraged to reach for daily. I feel that, being paperback, it has the potential to wear too quickly. But that is simply personal preference and I do like the vivid red chosen for the cover, which will aid a child in quickly recognizing which Bible is his or hers.

Maps are included as well. This Bible is written at a 3rd grade reading level. Overall I thought this Bible would be good for the age group it is written for. Please note it is an actual translation of the Bible, not a storybook.

A Motivational Conference all in 224 pages

Well I thought I would join the debate on this book Sun Stand Still by Steven Furtick. In all the debate and also in having a best friend that loves this book and highly recommends it, I must stick with my own beliefs. Sun Stand Still is like a motivational conference all in 224 pages. It’s like you read it and it motivates you to walk in faith and stand in the world with powerful faith as a believer. Then you leave the conference (Or finish the book) and life starts back up again; which is the reality of the world and all its woes or temptations for believers.

The positives, the book is very easy to read and simple to understand the concept of Steven’s interpretation of Joshua chapter 10 when going into an impossible battle against the five Amorite armies.

If you are a new believer or a baby in the faith this is a great book to learn about faith and understand that sometimes you hear an answer from God and sometimes you don’t. I love the fact Steven pointed that out.

This is very inspirational, but could do without hype and tickling of ears in a few parts.

There are a lot of hard truths to being a follower of Jesus. I don’t believe Steven displayed this in the book as much as it was needed. If you pray for the Sun to Stand still as Joshua it takes a lot of effort; affliction to the soul kind of effort. Are you willing to fast for 40 days and nights? Are you willing to pray for years and years before seeing any movement from God on your prayers? Are you willing to stay up night and day praying for a miracle or for the sun to stand? Steven did make a statement, "If you're going to pray for God to make the sun stand still, you'd better be ready to march all night!" I am more of a blunt person and would have appreciated a hard look at putting this kind of faith to action. This kind of faith just doesn’t come from a paticake prayer… It comes from a devoted and humble existence before our King!

If you are a believer and are looking for in depth studies of faith and many other things we as Christians need to know and understand I would like to show you were I look for resources. MikeBickle.org I just finished a conference with the IHOP (International House of Prayer) ministry and it wasn’t just a pump up session, it was actually life changing for me and the FIRE that burns within me was fanned. If you want to go deep and challenge your own knowledge of the Word, this is a great resource and he gives it all away for free… Even his books.

Faithful Promises of God in one Little handy Book *****

After receiving this beautifully made God’s Promises for Women of Faith book I couldn’t wait to open it up. I was pleasantly surprised at the way the authors have put this book together. The most favorable concept in this book is the fully loaded pages with nothing but scripture. There is a topic for everything in life; the great thing in this book is the accessibility. Including, being able to finding the perfect promises of God that meet my needs at that particular moment. Most of the time it takes me longer to find all the scriptures to meet a certain topic; I am trying to study. With this book it gives you an index in the beginning; from there it’s simple and quick. I am also able to fit this in my purse and carry to school and work with me. It comes in handy when I have free time sitting in my car.

I enjoyed reading these "tributes" to such faithful women. Following this section are lined pages for the reader to enter notes about "Verses That Are Special To Me." The book ends with a final section entitled "God's Plan of Salvation" - two pages of life saving, life altering scriptures that outline the plan to eternal life with God.

Also, I would recommend giving this as a gift to any women of God, or any women searching for the truth!

Rural Church's need love too!!

"Transforming church in Rural America" was an over all encouraging and motivation book. It was truly the boost I needed in my ministry I am currently commented to that involves a rural community. Shannon O'Dell has stepped out to speak on a subject in today’s culture on a topic that I believe is missed in our society. We are so consumed with the Mega church’s that we have missed feeding and uplifting the rural communities all over the world.

I believe O’Dell has made a stand for the UNDER DOG of our American culture. There are so many churches that are trying to reach people in smaller communities and I believe those churches can be just as dynamic as the Mega churches. Shannon keeps it real for me through out the whole book. It isn’t a Step by Step Guide or a How To on how to grow your rural church. Instead he speaks about the spirit of the Lord. The one and only thing that matters to me is God’s Spirit. You can have your fancy lighting and sound systems and be missing the spirit in a church. O’Dell explains how to follow the vision of the Lord and His direction for your church; which to me is the most important.

O’Dell brought up great points in his book; he stresses the point that marriage and family are a huge and important aspect within the church and is one of the “most powerful evangelistic tools in rural America”. After Shannon brought his up and made these statements I think I feel in love with this book even more!

All in all I really enjoyed this book and I have a few youth pastors and pastors I will be sending this book to. It always helps to be uplifted. It is easy to fall into a rut and live a mundane life. In rural America we should be taking a stand to show the mega churches that the Spirit of the Lord is with us!!

What every Christian in sales and marketing NEEDS!

Jungle Warfare is a 22 day devotional specifically designed for Christians in sales.

I used to work as a regional marketing director of sales for a national home health agency. After reading this I feel I have missed out on years of training I could have given my sales staff. I have to admit I am a female and a book on spiritual warfare is all good, but one that is based off of a military way of thinking was questionable to me. I have to say I related to the book and the author the whole time. It is a cut throat business world where men and women who are "in the trenches" everyday. It is a great tool to use in your everyday walk with the Lord. I used this devotion to start off my days.

The business world, especially corporate America that is in an economy where healthcare is changing so drastically. We can only trust in God to provide and make our paths straight.

1&2 Thessalonians/Philemon Bible Study

This bible study gets 3 stars. Let me explain why…

I did enjoy the bible study and the charts and notes that went along with it. It was a personal bible study so I was able to do this on my own timing and not have to be in a group setting.

This bible study is more for the newer Christian. Yes, I do believe we are all still growing in Christ and will never stop, but this bible study wasn’t very in-depth. It just touched on the surface of ones self and never went very deep into subjects. A good study for new believers wanting to understand Paul’s writings, but for believers who do they need an in-depth study.

It has the entire books of 1 & 2 Thessalonians and Philemon in the book in the New Living Translation, along with notes and introductions and outlines and maps and cross-references...so you can truly understand the setting you are studying.

I do like the fact that the Life Application speaks to the reader and makes you think a little on certain subjects. It is just like the life application bible. I bought one when I first became a believer and it helped a lot. But, as I grew as a Christian I moved to the Spirit Filled bible. It has words translated in Greek and is a more in-depth way of looking at the word.

I hope this review helps my brother and sister out there. Enjoy!!

What a Novel... AMAZING!!! Love Finds You in Victory Heights, Washington

Love Finds You in Victory Heights was an amazing novel with great historic details as well as gifted writing skills by the authors. I was swept away and taken back to an era placed in the 40’s. Things were so much simpler and innocent back then.

The most amazing thing about this novel was how they incorporated scripture and God. I stopped and pondered many times through out this story. It gave me revelations of Gods love and also gave me revelations on how a man should truly treat a woman; even scorned, hurt women. I love how the Lord really works on Rosalie and in the story God send people into her life to help lead her to the truth of His love.

I give this novel 5 stars. The authors did such a great job of describing this era and researching the city for which the story took place. I felt like I was there or at least know more about Chicago than I did before. It also mage me feel like I understand my grandparents more now, because of the details given about the women and men during World War II.

I loved the novel written by Goyer and Fleiss, I hope to see more written in the near future!!

Just what I needed...

WOW... I don't ever really say this about every book I read, but on this one I will.

Pete Wilson wrote a book for people like me. What do you do when God doesn't show up the way you thought He would? This has been a question for me over and over in my new Christian walk. Being a new Christian people never tell you that when God doesn't answer you and make things happen the way you thought He would, then you do this... So, I was clueless as to keep moving forward when things don't play out the way I want and need them to. Each day when I read a few little paragraphs here and there it spoke to me. This book has really changed my life and has helped open my eyes to WHO God is rather than WHO I make Him out to be.

Pete incorporates a lot of scripture and biblical stories, developing the characters of the bible more in-depth for me. How he incorporated David really opened my eyes to how God really blessed him, but more than that how David submitted his will over to God's.

Over all I have to give this book 5 stars. It changed my out look on my plans and helped my relationship with Jesus be that much stronger. I recommend this book to everyone, even those whose lives seem perfect without a care in the world. One day you will need to know the content in this book.

Bible Jumble for Kids

Bible Studies Teacher... Pleased!

I made copies of these puzzles for the kids and they LOVED them. We worked on them at the beginning of class and it helped everyone quite down and focused for a moment. After that I made a game out of the questions and answers.

This is a fun way for kids to learn about the bible. Most kids hate to sit and be quizzed over what they know, but put into a game it can be fun.
There are 200 puzzles in the book, and there is an answer key in the back.
This book would make a great gift; Sunday school teachers would love this tool, or a fabulous way to make a Bible study.

Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman's Soul (Hardcover)

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have read several different types of reviews, either one way or the other. Hating or loving this book. Buy, for me personally I am going to take it like it is. This is a book that uplifts women and helps them to truly understand the women that God initially created. A very deep and insightful book. It will make you think about who you are in Christ and it will cause you to look at your life. I love books that make me do that.

If you are a Christan that watches very few secular movies, then the comparisons and references to fictional characters is will be lost to you. Eldridge gives a lot of references to the secular movies and fiction. I get where the thought was in the reference, the author is trying to tie in the secular worlds way of relating, because so many of US are part of the worlds culture. As Christians we watch t.v. and watch movies at the theatres. So, for those Christians bashing Eldridge for his references, please take the speak out of your own eye! Some Christians will get the references and some wont... Google what you don't get.

This is just a rehashing of Eldridge's Wild at Heart. But, it is pertaining to the female audience. I do believe that God gave Eldridge a insight into female and male. Yes, I believe that they are trying to sale these books in many different ways and it might start to look like mass production. But, I will stick with Jesus and take from these books what He reveals to my heart and then I will pass this book on to another female. If nothing else it is a great book for personal growth!

Best-Ever Games for Youth Ministry

Scattered throughout this book are Gaming Tips, which give essential suggestions and insights on everything from choosing, beginning, to leading a game.

I am new to leading a group of 8-12 yr. old girls in my church. I am not very creative when it comes to games and activities I am more of a preacher. So, I was looking for some help. This book gave me great ideas. I don't use every game, because some will not work. For the most part I have been using a new game within this book each week.

There are about two to three games per page. Especially the last chapter on how NOT to lead games with your youth group was great. I am new to this and need all the advice I can get!

I highly recommend this book for new and exciting games to play with your youth!

The Word of Promise: New Testament Audio Bible (Audio CD)

I am a visual learner and I just have to say that these CD's are wonderful. They put the bible in a today's setting. It is so hard for younger teens and adults to comprehend the bible. I just love how this is so descriptive for the listener. It is so exciting and interesting that you could listen for hours. I have been listening to this in my car to and from work every day since I got the set. It is easy listening and great for older folks who may be ill and cannot read. This is a wonderful gift and will bless hearts. It comes in a handy zippered case to keep them safe for many years to come. The Word of Promise New Testament would be a welcome addition to anyone.

Are you living a life of freedom? That's the question at the heart of pastor & author Brian Tome's latest, FREE BOOK. Tome's book is a full-frontal attack on bondage--spiritual, physical--whatever is keeping people prisoners. I have just finished reading Free Book and I have to say it is not your typical christian life/spiritual growth books. Brain Tome is a highly energetic writer. He is passionate about seeing a generations of Christians set free from religion and works. It is very evident in his book that this is something that he has personally worked out in his own Christan live.

Tome makes you feel like you are engaged in a conversation. He is talking at you he is talking with you, which to me personally goes over well. Tome addresses some much-needed issues such as strongholds and getting rid of those "squatters" in your life. He's open and honest (almost to a fault) about issues he's dealt with himself. I know Brian is genuine in his desire to lead others to a life of freedom---which is what this book is all about.

I don't think I will be recommending and of my non believing friends to read this book. It would be a good read for a seasoned christian with some free time.

Will the World End in 2012?: A Christian Guide to the Question Everyone's Asking

I give the book two stars. I am not to much of a fan of this type of book, but I feel it can help others. Hundley brought in a lot of facts into which truths people believe. There are many different endings to the world that people believe and I do think that the author portray this in his book. I would have like to know what the author thought more about each different subject though.

The author does give a conclusion, he states his "Conclusion" on whether he thinks each factor is a good argument in supporting the world ending. I feel that I have more questions with the end of the world than I did before. I am a Christian, I am not worried at all about the end, and I know to keep my eyes on Jesus so I rest in that. I wish the author would have shared more about Jesus or the biblical theology on the end times instead of waiting until the very end of the book. Incorporating more of the word and scripture would have helped.

The conclusion the author gives on several of the chapter topics left me very surprised. Ultimately, the author concludes that regardless of when the world ends, there are things we can do to ensure that we face the end of our lives with confidence, peace, and joy rather than with fear and dread.

I probably will not recommend this book to someone with questions about the end times or if the world is really ending in 2012.

The Hunger Games

This is the first in a series of books by Suzanne Collins. I was recommended this read by a dear friend and family member. I was so impressed by this read. I haven't been this excited about a series since Twilight. LOL.
The Hunger Games is set in North America where there are 12 colonies. There were 13, but they rebelled and are non existent. The main character and protagonist Katniss is a 16 year old girl. She is a illegal hunter in her district, feeding her family in a very poverty stricken district.
The Capital is a what we as Americans would call The Man... Or a communist government set up in a place that all their needs are meet while a dying people suffer and try and fend for themselves.

There was a rebellion in the colonies between them and the Capital. So, in their peace treaty The Hunger Games where birthed. The Hunger Games is a form of punishment and a way for the Capitol to remind the people that they are in control. Each year at the same time one boy and one girl from all twelve districts are chosen to participate in a yearly competition to the death. It is done by lottery for children ages 12-18.

There is also a few love interests in the story. Katniss is torn between her best friend and another companion along her journey's. A romance that always leaves the reading wondering.

I hope everyone I know reads this, not just for the excitement in reading such a great story. But, also for us to remember what all we have and how great we have it here in our country right at this moment.

Also, if you get this book and read I would like to know what you think about this book. I am in the process of writing my review for her second in this series Catching Fire.
